A Gough Compendium

From Infinity Wanderers 1-6

Welsh, Local & Georgian History

This publication is composed of articles from our self-published Infinity Wanderers magazine, so goes out under the Selornia imprint, with a free ISBN. These articles have been expanded upon by subsequent research and placed in chronological order for this book.

A second edition which will include articles from Infinity Wanderers 7 and 8, and a separate chapter for the Portreys, is in development and will be published by the middle of October 2023.

In 1717 William Gough of Willsbury, Saint Briavels, Gloucestershire married Catherine Portrey, daughter of Christopher Portrey of Ynyscedwyn, Ystradgynlais, Breconshire. In December 1752 the last of the male Portreys, Christopher junior, died. William and Catherine's son, Richard, inherited Ynyscedwyn, taking the name Richard Gough Aubrey as part of the family compact. For the next 190 years, the Gough family would be squires of Ynyscedwyn, across four generations. This collection covers the first four Gough squires, up to 1835.
