The End of Times
Jon N. DaviesAs the world spins out of control, this memoir records my holidays tying things up. From visiting Pembroke Castle, which I had always intended to do, to touring HMS Belfast for the first time in 25 years, or visiting the Tower of London for the first time since 1981, The End of Times records my attempt to see the sights and hear the sounds of a familiar world before it is all lost. Interspersed with the prosaic, familiar world of home, we come and go from a few days away to several weeks back at work, whilst the world news gets ever worse, and consequences gallop ahead of thought. We will never be here again - this goes for time, and for place. The cosy, calm world that we struggled to keep alive since the Millennium is being ripped to shreds around us, whilst visiting places such as Westminster Abbey or Southwark Cathedral feels like a requiem to an old world.
