Jon N. DaviesAs a family we had two motorhome holidays in Scotland - in the Summer of 1981 when we went up to the lochs, and the Mull of Kintyre, and in the Summer of 1988 when we visited around Dumfries and Galloway. My diary of our 1978 Northumberland holiday also shows that we popped across the border on one day of that holiday, though we did not camp there. In addition, in 2005, I had two holidays in Scotland, in the October and December of that year, the first taking in the North-East, Orkneys and Shetland, and the second focused on Durness and the far North-West. This volume has been compiled using what primary sources remain (my Mum's diaries for 1988, Dad's motorhome logbooks for 1981 and 1988, some postcards from both holidays, my own childish writings about the 1978 holiday, and a plethora of photographs from all holidays.) As ever I am indebted to the kind people on Twitter/X who helped identify some of the locations. In addition, of course, my memories flesh out events, especially the latter holiday where I recount the routes I took, the means of transport, what I saw along the way, where I stayed, and anything else that comes to mind! Twenty years later I would return - but that is for another book!
