The Last Days
Jon N. DaviesThe Last Days... The world feels like it is hanging on by a slender thread that a few brave souls are fighting to preserve, whilst the Sword of Damocles sways above us, ready to descend. Whilst I both support and back those fighting this good fight, it increasingly feels like a doomed enterprise. Fire will come to the world, and we must walk through the fire to find a new future. But that is not what this book is about (mostly). This book is a journey through a four month period where the impending doom of the world gives impetus to visit places, see people, reconnect, offer friendship, be ourselves whilst it is still possible. The four holidays central to this memoir are separated by thoughts and commentary on the collapsing state of civilisation, the growing threat of international fascism, and the collusion amongst the powerful to bring the liberal democratic order to an end. Are those just thoughts? Is this just commentary? Or does it speak to the last days before the Fall?
